An Introduction to the Aquatic Insects of North America was first published in 1978 and has gone through three additions (1978, 1984, 1996). The fourth addition was recently published in 2008. This book has gone from having 22 authors, keys to only the family level with 1712 references, to generic level keys with 45 authors and close to 6000 references. In the most recent edition we have added a third editor, Dr. Marty Berg, and many new authors, as several previous authors have retired. We have included the following new items including the expanded coverage of the phylogeny, biomonitoring, respiration, ecology, life history and behavior chapters, in addition to updates of all the keys and new figures for many chapters. In the beginning of the book there are plates showing color photographs of the immatures of most all families of aquatic insects. In the Ecological Tables, we have added a column to show Ecological Tolerance Values for each taxon. For the first time, there will be a Glossary at the end of the book and an interactive key to aquatic insect orders on a CD will be included with the book. The spiral binding will be retained and a new color cover identifies the new edition.
